National Tobacco Control Program was launched in October’ 2007. At present NTCP in Assam is functioning in the State capital, Kamrup (M) and Jorhat District. On April 2012, the program came under the administrative management of Directorate of Health Services.
Following are the specific steps for implementing (as per Govt. of India’s Guidelines).
State Tobacco Control Cell-There is a State Tobacco Control Cell in the State level to build the capacity of the state in effective enforcement of the Anti –tobacco Act and also to coordinate the District Tobacco Control Programme. The State Tobacco Control Cell Personnel are one State Nodal Officer, one State Consultant.
District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) for implementation of the anti-tobacco laws, public awareness against ill - effects of tobacco use. The DTCC personnel are One District Nodal Officer, One Psychologist, one Social Worker, One Data entry operator, engaged on contractual basis selected by the State Unit to carry out the tobacco control activities.

The fund has been routed from Government of India through State Finance Department to NHM and then to NTCP sub account under DHS
